In our pre-race interview, we were asked, “who is doing Townes Pass?” Justin responded, “Which one is Townes Pass?” I think this sums up our blasé attitude about our preparation. It wasn't like we showed up and said, “You mean it's 508 miles?” But we weren't exactly a well-drilled squad. For me the attitude came from not knowing what to expect. I'd never done an ultramarathon event like this.
Stage 3 was the longest of the race, and Justin led us us into the night, over Townes Pass, and into Death Valley. Justin rode an impressive pace to finish in just under 5.5 hours.
Results at the end of Stage 3: 252 miles in 14:31:00.
